IS CITZEN JOURNALISM A THREAT OR A CHALLENGE TO THE PUBLIC?
Citizen journalism can also be known as be known or called as participatory, democratic or public journalism. It has been the order of the day and is causing a threat or challenge to professional journalists.
Citizen journalism can therefore be defined as the participation of the audience in the dissemination of news about events and occurrences with the means of the latest communication technologies.
This has become a threat and a challenge to professional journalism because of the introduction and increase in technological advances in digital cameras, smart phones, laptops, android phones and the increase in social networks has made it very simple and easy for all people who might not be professionals to convey messages out limiting the work of professional journalist. Another threat could also be the credibility of their news that they convey and more importantly, the creativity of their stories might not be professional though they may have facts.
